# The New English Archive > A curated archive of photographs, gig documents, interviews and recordings from The New English, a London indie pop band of the late 1980s. Last substantive revision: 5 November 2026. This archive is about the band The New English (also written New English on two surviving documents). London indie pop band of the late 1980s with Johnny Rasheed and Shareef C. Not The New English Rock Ensemble and not the 2005 album New English on Popster. Unrelated to language courses, schools or magazines with similar names. A later account gives the main New English period as 1986 to 1988. The digital album London 1987 has a catalogue release date of 2 January 2019. The title and that date are not the period of the band. Identified from platform catalogues under the artist name The New English. The archive has not compared the audio with any 1980s recording, and the original recording dates are not established. Inspiration (1993) is credited to Johnny Rasheed, not to the band. The archive is a curated collection, not an independent source. Every statement links to its evidence, and attributed statements carry their qualification. ## Start here - [Homepage as Markdown](https://thenewenglish.org/index.md): the story, musicians, live history, press, recordings and later projects - [Archive index as Markdown](https://thenewenglish.org/archive/index.md): every document with its date evidence - [Research directory as Markdown](https://thenewenglish.org/research/index.md): method, source tiers, biographies, statements and the source register - [Questions and answers](https://thenewenglish.org/questions/index.md): direct answers with sources - [About this archive](https://thenewenglish.org/about-this-archive/index.md): editing method, status, images and rights ## Archive documents - [Tunnel Club review, 28 October 1986](https://thenewenglish.org/archive/tunnel-club-review.md): 28/10/86.
